Unlace Your Shoes… Put on Mine – I am a Black Woman

They say in order to really understand someone’s perspective you need to walk a mile in their shoes. When I was approached to participate in this project it seemed really simple, show up answer a few questions and go home. I thought very little about the end product and as there were lots of other women taking part, my input would be minimum.

Interviews were done, and solarismedia worked hard at putting it all together and I received an invitation to the screening. I sat in the front row with some of the other women who had taken part and waited expectantly for the film to start.

No one told me what to expect.

The lights dimmed and as I looked at up at the screen I was flabergasted, there I was centre stage and all before the opening credits.

In that moment I learnt a few things about myself, too numerous to mention here but these are my top  three nuggets to take away:

  1. Don’t be afraid to be yourself. There really is no one like you
  2. Shining your light gives others an opportunity to see in the darkness
  3. Past experiences have powerful stories to tell

Watch the short movie and let me know what you think.
